Portugal Douze Points
Portugal is no stranger to winning the Eurovision Song Contest but in its latest initiative travel journalist Ed Finn awards Visit Portugal a BIG Douze Points! Portugal Tourism has created a “Clean & Safe” stamp of approval which will be awarded to tourist companies that are compliant with hygiene and cleaning requirements for the prevention and control of Covid-19 and other possible infections. The lockdown in Portugal, which shut most non-essential services last month to contain the spread of the coronavirus, will be lifted gradually from the 3rd May, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has said. In line with this progress, Turismo de Portugal is using this “Clean & Safe” initiative to inform companies of the hygiene and cleaning requirements necessary in this emerging new landscape. This is a very exciting and innovative initiative to promote Portugal as a safe destination for tourists.
The lockdown in Portugal, will be lifted gradually from the 3rd May
As of April 24th, tourism enterprises, tourist entertainment companies, travel agencies and companies that have an official registration with the National Tourist Authority, will be able to request certification as a “Clean & Safe” establishment. After companies have submitted the Declaration of Commitment, they can publicise the “Clean & Safe” stamp, either physically on their premises or across their digital platforms. Companies that are registered with the National Tourist Authority will be able to request this stamp. Once they’ve passed the quality standards they can display their stamp on their premises and online.
This validation is free and optional and is valid for one year. It will require the implementation of an internal protocol that will ensure the necessary hygiene measures to avoid risks of contagion and will guarantee safe procedures for the operation of tourist activities. Turismo de Portugal, in coordination with the competent entities, will carry out audits of establishments that join this “Clean & Safe” initiative. We at Travel Times applaud this excellent initiative and campaign from Visit Portugal which will go a long way to instil confidence for the consumer. As my title suggests “Portugal, Douze Points”
