Solo adventure doesn’t mean you’re on your own on the Camino

A slight long shot of a man and woman holding - their backs on the Camino way - a representative shot for you will not walk alone though you are going solo

New for 2023, Ireland’s leading experts in walking holidays, UWalk.ie are delighted to be offering their new “Travel Solo but Not Alone” self guided group departure program.

Walking the Camino de Santiago has become increasingly popular with Irish tourists as it offers a unique cultural experience and is ideally suited to the beginner or intermediate walker for its moderate pace. Few walking routes in the world can compare with the iconic Camino. What was once a solely religious pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, has become so much more and each year on average over 300,000 people make their way along the path of St James. In fact, in 2022 a record breaking 400,000 people walked the Camino. Some do it for health or spiritual reasons, others find it the perfect way to disconnect or to find peace, while some simply enjoy the wonderful adventure that comes with traipsing slowly towards the horizon each day with little else to worry the mind.

Quite simply, there is something about walking the Camino that isn’t found on any other walking route. Maybe it’s the history or the sumptuous landscapes or the hearty Spanish cuisine served in bountiful supply along the way. Perhaps it’s the wonderful camaraderie found between pilgrims.

Commenting on the new venture, Martin Skelly, Managing Director of Uwalk.ie said; “UWalk.ie offers Irish travellers the chance to go it alone, but have the security of travelling with a group of fellow Irish pilgrims on a unique experience they’ll treasure forever. The new “Travel Solo but Not Alone” program offers group departure dates on the French, Portuguese and Celtic Camino routes. Pilgrims will enjoy a meet and greet on arrival and will be transferred to their hotel where they will join the group for a welcome dinner. They can then listen to a briefing from our local guide who will explain about the week ahead and the walks they will embark on. Then it’s time to set off on their self guided Camino journey and travel solo but not alone, getting to know their fellow travellers and make like minded new friends along the way.”
