Irish Schoolboy in Race to Help Homeless

Help the Homeless Community

Dublin schoolboy to cycle 200km this weekend in aid of Irish homeless charity

Nine-year-old amateur cyclist James Cunningham will take to his bike this Sunday and Monday in a selfless challenge to help the homeless in Ireland.   James will enlist the help of an indoor training bike together with a virtual riding simulator displayed on a large screen.

After a discussion with his parents, Keith and Fiona, James chose the Peter McVerry Trust as his preferred charity as he was worried about the plight of homeless people in the current Covid-19 pandemic.  James is an avid sports enthusiast but cycling is his number one passion.  He enjoyed a fabulous cycling holiday around France’s Pay de Loire last summer and is hotly following in the footsteps of his dad Keith who has taken part in many races such as the Giro d’Italia Gran Fondo in Belfast which ran for three years after the Grande Partenza was hosted there in 2014 by Tourism Northern Ireland.

Help the Homeless Community

James is a youth member of the Quanta-Scott Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club and takes part in lots of competitions.  “This is an incredible undertaking by James and we’re delighted to have his support,” said Brian Curtin, of the trust.  In this age of gaming and social media, it is really refreshing to see a young schoolboy devoting his time to help those less fortunate.

James said that he will be relying on his sister Elise’s delicious healthy brownies to spur him on his journey of goodwill and his younger brother Benjamin will be on hand with refreshments!

Well done James, Travel Times will be supporting you all the way and if any of our subscribers would like to support James on his worthy and commendable endeavour donations can be made using this link  –justgiving.com/fundraising/james-cunningham2020
