Stylish Oslo on a budget – staying at the wonderful Hotel Continental, one of the 50 best hotels in the world and winner of the prestigious Conde Naste Traveller 2018 Readers Choice Awards. Located in the heart of old Oslo, opposite the National Theatre and a just few minutes walk to the Royal Palace gardens. Very reasonable for those prepared to pay more for a first-class experience. Prices vary according to room category and availability, double rooms from €220 including a sumptuous breakfast. They also have stay for 3 pay for 2 night specials from time to time.
English country house meets Nordic cool at the Continental with big comfy beds and stylish pastel decor, award-winning contemporary art adorns its walls and you have Molton Brown toiletries in spacious bathrooms. Rooms with balconies are also available overlooking the theatre and gardens below.
Oslo is an impressive city, and the Norwegian capital has been transformed in recent years thanks to a number of significant architectural projects, regeneration and the huge interest in Nordic cuisine.
A long weekend or short break there will provide a very busy three days, all sights are within walking distance and those that are not are a quick metro, bus or tram ride away. I highly recommend the Oslo card for all public transport and ferries to the islands.
The Viking Museum is terrific and located on Museum island again a short ferry ride away. City Hall and the Opera House are also well worth a visit. Don’t miss the amazing statues at The Vigeland Museum and Park. Gustav Vigeland was quite a lobbyist, and persuaded the city of Oslo to build him a combined home and studio. In return, Vigeland donated all his works to the city.
I flew to Oslo with award winning Norwegian. They fly from Dublin daily with fares from €45 each way – I love flying Norwegian, I always feel that I am travelling in style with their new fleet and excellent service. www.norwegian.com – Hotel Continental – www.hotelcontinental.no
